Southampton loanee Eljero Elia has told Memphis Depay to stay at PSV Eindhoven next season despite attracting admiring glances from Premier League giants Manchester United.
TalkSPORT reports how the Holland international has been heavily linked with a prospective move to Old Trafford this summer, where he would be reunited with former Netherlands head coach Louis van Gaal.
Depay formed part of the 23-man squad that the Red Devils boss took to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, and has remained in contact with his old mentor during his debut campaign at the Theatre of Dreams.

The 21-year-old has netted a mightily impressive 19 goals in 25 Eredivisie matches in 2014/15, further enhancing his reputation as an up-and-coming star of the future.
After catching the eye of a number of top European suitors Depay is expected to leave the Philips Stadion, but Elia - who joined Saints on a temporary deal from Werder Bremen in January - thinks his compatriot should think carefully before quitting Phillip Cocu's side.

"I think it will be best for him to stay at Eindhoven," he explained in an interview with Voetbal International. "My feeling is he should play in the Champions League for PSV then he would have the experience of playing at the highest level in his locker before the moves at 22.
"PSV don't need the money and I feel Memphis doesn't need it as he signed a nice contract recently."
Van Gaal is unlikely to be too happy about Elia's comments, particularly if he is planning to move for the Dutchman when the transfer window reopens at the end of the season.
The fleet-footed forward has proven himself capable of playing right across the front line, which is why he could prove to be a valuable addition to the Manchester United squad for next season.
However, he'll be expected to hit the ground running were he to make a big money transfer, so Depay must ensure that he's really ready for the challenge of playing at one of the world's biggest clubs.
With that in mind, perhaps he would be better to follow Elia's advice and learn from the past mistakes that his close friend has made, and bide his time patiently by playing one more season after this one back in his homeland.
