AJ Lee is one of the best WWE Divas of all-time and she will go down as a legend in time. But at the moment, her decision to retire from the WWE has left the wrestling company in somewhat disarray.
Lee did not tell the WWE she was going to retire before WrestleMania 31, leaving the company in a sticky situation after they allowed AJ and Paige to defeat The Bella Twins at Mania.
Had they known about Lee's imminent retirement, it is likely they wouldn't have written the Mania event the way they did. But regardless of the what happened in the ring, why AJ Lee decided to retire has been a question asked most of all since the 28-year-old's shocking decision.
Why did AJ retire?
It seems now that question can be answered, after the latest report by WrestleZone, with the website reporting via wrestling expert Dave Meltzer that she retired because of the ongoing lawsuit that WWE doctor Chris Amann has issued against her husband, CM Punk.
"Since AJ Lee announced her “retirement” from pro wrestling last Friday, the prevailing rumor is that the three-time Divas Champion had left WWE in large part due to the ongoing lawsuit by Dr. Chris Amann against her husband, CM Punk," WrestleZone reported.
"Dave Meltzer backed up these claims in the recent Wrestling Observer Newsletter, adding that she informed the company of her departure after WrestleMania 31."
Punk part of the reason
CM Punk was once also the darling of the WWE, but his decision to quit last January also left the company in disarray.
Punk then spoke on the Colt Cabana Art of Wrestling Podcast and slammed many key personnel in the WWE, including Amann - who issued a lawsuit against the former champion.
