Kings XI Punjab v Rajasthan Royals: IPL Match 3

Football News

George Bailey’s Kings XI Punjab will host the Rajasthan Royals at their new home ground the Maharashtra Cricket Association International Stadium in Match 3 of IPL 2015.

The Kings XI Punjab will believe that they have a point to prove after losing the IPL title to Kolkata last season in the final after topping the points table.

George Bailey’s side were by far and away the most destructive team in the tournament, largely thanks to the surprise form of Australian Glenn Maxwell who inspired a Punjab victory in most of their match ups.

To add to the KXIP firepower, the seventh highest run scorer in IPL history Virender Sehwag will look to get Sanjay Bangar’s side off to a flyer coupled with the red-hot Mitchell Johnson steaming in on the bowling front.

World Cup inspiration

The Royals on the other hand are in better shape than ever to go all the way in the tournament this time round.

They have almost a carbon copy of the squad that missed out on a playoff spot in IPL 2014. However, this time they have no less than three World Cup winners in their ranks in the form of skipper Shane Watson, James Faulkner and Steven Smith.

A lengthy batting line up that includes the three Australians and Indian Ajinkya Rahane should be enough to weather any Punjab storm.

With Aussie World Cup winning talent on both sides, the match up promises to be a blockbuster event and a high scoring affair.

A Royal affair

Previous meetings between the two sides fall in the favour of the Royals, however, the Kings XI Punjab came off victorious in the two match ups in IPL 2014.

With Kolkata winning well in Match 1, both sides will be looking to start quickly and send a strong message to the rest of the league.

The game will start at 3:30pm GMT or 8:00 IST and will be aired on Sky Sports 2 HD.
