Stuart Pearce selects his Manchester XI

Published 1 Comments

Former Manchester City boss Stuart Pearce has made some surprise selections in his combined Manchester XI.

Incredibly he's left out the high profile names of David de Gea, David Silva and Sergio Aguero when choosing his derby day team.

Huge clash

Manchester United and City, of course, go head-to-head at Old Trafford this Sunday, with both sides hoping to secure their place in next season's Champions League.

After City's defeat to Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Monday night, Louis van Gaal's side are now in front of the current Premier League champions in the table.

A place in the top three would also secure an automatic place in Europe's elite competition, while the team in forth place would have to endure a play off at the start of next season, so it's all to play for at the Theatre of Dreams.

Pearce's XI

Ahead of the game, however, Pearce, despite previously managing City, has surprised fans by naming his combined side.

In fact, Pearce has named as many as eight Manchester United players in his team, but didn't even include arguably the club's most consistent and best player David de Gea.

With Joe Hart in goal, Pearce has opted for a back-four of Antonio Valencia, Vincent Kompany, Phil Jones and Daley Blind, while he's handed Micahel Carrick and Yaya Toure places in the middle of the park.

The attacking quartet is all United, however, with Juan Mata, Wayne Rooney, Ashley Young and Marouane Fellaini all getting the nod over the likes of Silva, Aguero, Samir Nasri and Co.

Momentum with United

There's no doubt about it, United will be favourites heading into the match as they have all the momentum right now.

After five straight Premier League victories, Wayne Rooney, Juan Mata and Co. will take some stopping, but Manuel Pellegrini will no doubt be hoping for a response from his side.

The duo of Sergio Aguero and Wayne Rooney will certainly have huge roles to play, while Carrick and Toure could be key as both sides attempt to take control of the proceedings. The showdown is not to be missed, and could be a cracker.
