According to the Daily Express, Liverpool are interested in signing Ligue one top goalscorer, Alexandre Lacazette.

It is reported that Dutch starlet, Memphis Depay is actually Liverpool's top target, but amid strong interest from rivals Manchester United, the Reds are accepting the probability of the PSV forward making the switch to Old Trafford.

As a result Liverpool have now shifted their attention to the Frenchman as they are in desperate need of a forward due to their significant lack of goals this season. The Red's interest in the Lyon forward doesn't come as a shock, Lacazette has found the back of the net on 24 occasions while registering six assists in 27 league appearances respectively.

However, if the Merseyside club wish to sign Lacazette, they must fend of competition from rival sides Chelsea, Tottenham, Arsenal and Manchester City; all clubs are monitoring the Frenchman's situation.

Regardless of how much Liverpool want Lacazette, it will be a major challenge to sign the 23 year old as there is a major roadblock in the Reds path; Lyon are adamant that Lacazette will stay at the club.

The Lyon president, Jean-Michael Aulas is confident Lacazette will not be sold and was reported to say: "It is simply impossible. He will be with us at the Stade des Lumieres and the Champions League."

Judging by Lacazette's spectacular form this season, it wouldn't be wrong to say the French international has the potential to make an impact at any club.

If Lacazette was to leave Lyon it is likely that he would make the biggest impact at Liverpool, due to the Anfield side's shortage of goals. Nonetheless, if the Reds secure the signature of Lacazette, the Frenchman would be a great goal source for Liverpool.
