David de Gea is nailed on to named number one in pretty much all the Premier League teams of the season and will deserve it – but even Manchester United’s number one can’t claim to be better than the new sensation from the animal kingdom.

‘The Cat’ is probably the most overused nickname for any amateur footballer who is any way half-decent in goal, but the performances of one little kitty will have all football fans purring with delight at the sensational saves he is making in his living room.

It is not clear where the video is being filmed, but it is being overlaid with what sounds like Brazilian commentary on a save being made by the Brazil goalkeeper from their World Cup ’94 winning side, Taffarel.

It looks like a ball of string is being used to lure the feline into participating in the game, and it certainly works as a young lad chips a shot across the room towards the camera – what happens next is incredible.

From point-blank range the mog leaps from his position tucked up next to the sofa and bats away the ball – it all happens so fast a slow-motion replay is required. The first save was good, but the second was out of this world.

After our lad has finished doing a little dance (not sure what he’s celebrating, as he has just been denied a certain goal), he lines up another shot and from out of shot the cat flies across the screen and slaps the ball away with an outstretched paw - watch it below,

Ok, it is all a bit silly, but football and cats are pretty much what the internet was made for – just watch it and enjoy.
