Manchester United one step closer to signing Memphis Depay

According to the Daily Mail, PSV director Marcel Brands has admitted it's very likely that Memphis Depay will leave the club come end of the season.

Brands is quoted as saying: “The chances are very high that he leaves. If you see what clubs are enquiring about him, they really are the best in Europe.


Brands added: “With a heavy heart [we would let him go], because a great player and a great guy leaves. But we are also proud that a boy from the academy is going to make such a step.”

This comes as fantastic news for Manchester United fans as the Red Devils are desperate to bring the 21-year-old to Old Trafford next season. If United were to succeed in landing Depay, it would certainly bolster their squad; the PSV winger is one of the most promising young stars in the world.


This season the Dutchman has proved why his services are wanted by the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City, Tottenham and Paris Saint Germain. Depay has scored 19 goals and provided three assists in 25 Eredivisie appearances, whilst registering 135 shots; 49 of those attempts on target.

The Dutch international has also completed the most take ons in the league (69), along with most chances created (46).

World Cup

United boss Louis van Gaal worked with Depay when he lead the Dutch to third place at the 2014 world Cup in Brazil, where the starlet impressed by scoring two goals and teeing up an assist in just four appearances.

The Old Trafford outfit have a great chance of landing the Dutch youngster all thanks to the strong relationship Van Gaal built with Depay during his time as manager of the Netherlands national team.
