Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has issued an apology to his wife’s Manchester City supporting hairdresser following the 4-2 victory for the Red Devils at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Truus, who is married to the Dutchman, was said to have been discussing the fiery local derby in her hair salon, says Van Gaal.

Four goals coming from Ashley Young, Marouane Fellaini, Juan Mata and defender Chris Smalling was more than enough to see off the City threat.

A double from Sergio Aguero, who opened and closed the scoring, was too little as the red side of the city triumphed. The jubilant United manager spoke to MUTV after the game: “Dawn [his wife’s hairdresser], I’m sorry- but we were the better team”.

Man of the match Ashley Young said: “We feel we can beat anyone on our day. “Confidence has been sky high for a long time and we want to keep the momentum going now”. Young also spoke of the magnificent support from the home fans in his post match interview.

Questions are being asked of how long Manuel Pellegrini’s tenure will last with the current Premier League champions after this defeat.

This result has further cemented a top four finish for United- with City starting to fall down the league table. It was a third loss in five games for the blues of Manchester.
