Arsenal invincible Robert Pires says that Mesut Ozil has proved critics wrong, who earlier in the season labeled him a flop, speaking to Arsenal Magazine.

The German World Cup winner has been hailed for his recent performances which have helped Arsenal extend their winning run to eight games- a record last achieved by Pires and the rest of the 2004 invincible team.

Speaking in the latest edition of the Arsenal magazine after their 4-1 thrashing over Liverpool earlier in the month, Pires praised the midfielder for his efforts and passion for the club: “For me, the man of the match was Mesut Ozil- I am glad he proved his critics wrong.

“Too many people have criticised him this season and overall since he arrived at Arsenal. I train with him regularly and I can tell you that he is one of the best players I have seen.

“He loves this club and cares a lot about it. He wants to win trophies here and make the fans happy”.

Pires expressed his admiration for the way the Arsenal attack have played so fluently this season, with Ozil playing a key role. He said: “You can see that his understanding with Ramsey, Santi Carzola, Sanchez or Giroud is perfect. I love seeing Mesut, Ramsey and Giroud exchanging those short passes.”

Statistically, Ozil has been in brilliant form since returning from a knee injury- which saw him side-lined for three months. The £42.5m playmaker has been directly involved in eight goals within 15 appearances for Arsenal.
