Chelsea could well scour the transfer market for a new central defender in the summer but according to Evening Standard columnist Patrick Barclay they should look no further than Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane. The French youngster, who is said to be available for around £20 million, is in Barclay’s eyes one of the best defenders on the planet, and he makes the point that if Eliaquim Mangala was worth £42 million to Manchester City last summer Varane could be valued at as much as £120m if one was using the same measuring stick. Needless to say Mourinho won’t be taking his advice from journalists when the transfer window opens, but it’s a fair point nonetheless. In other news it appears the Blues are about to complete the signing of Brazilian starlet Nathan and the player is reportedly in London to undergo a medical and finalise proceedings. His international teammate Mosquito posted an Instagram message welcoming him to the club, sending social media into a frenzy.
