Ever since the WWE parted ways with Rey Mysterio, the company has had a big need to find the newest star from south of the border.
With Alberto Del Rio and the original Sin Cara also being both released not too long ago, the need is even more urgent. The WWE have tried to plug the gap with the tag team of the Lucha Dragons - consisting of the new Sin Cara and Kalisto - an NXT graduate.
But there is currently no Mexican singles star in the company and it is something that Vince McMahon wants to fix sharpish, and he may have just found the wrestler to do it.
Mexican wrestler Laredo Kid, without his mask, received a WWE tryout on April 7th at the tapings in Dallas, Texas. He was one of the wrestlers who worked a dark match against Los Matadores.
According to Wrestling Inc, Laredo claims WWE has offered him a deal and they will be doing medical testing soon. If all goes well, he could be in NXT as early as June.
The Laredo Kid maintains an exciting moveset that will be sure to make him a firm favorite with the crowd in NXT. He is the prototypical Luchadore that we have been used to seeing in the WWE and seems like the natural successor to a man like Mysterio. The 31-year old's finisher is the “Laredo 630”, which is 630 degree rotation into a senton from the top rope.
Laredo Kid isn't Rey Mysterio though. He is nowhere near as popular in his native Mexico and has also not had any big runs in the United States, like Rey did in WCW. But, he is a masked wrestler, which the WWE will love to see when it comes to merchandise sales.
