Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea wants to join Real Madrid this summer and is no longer worried about the fact that Iker Casillas is the current number one, according to Spanish journalist Josep Pedrerol.
According to the Daily Mirror, citing information offered on Spanish television station La Sexta, Pedrerol has claimed that United’s star man is keen to make a switch to the Santiago Bernabeu at the end of the season and that only an agreement between his club and Real is what is lacking.
This follows months of speculation suggesting that he will indeed transfer back to his native country, although Louis van Gaal will want to do everything in his power to stop said deal from coming to fruition.

De Gea’s current contract runs out next summer, meaning that unless United can convince him to put pen to paper on an Old Trafford extension soon their best option might be to cash in on him whilst his valuation remains at its highest. Now though, according to Pedrerol, they may not have too much choice in the matter.
De Gea desire
"David De Gea has said yes to Madrid," he said.
"And David De Gea is clear... he wants to be the Real Madrid goalkeeper.
"One of the problems had been the future (or not) of Iker Casillas but this is no longer an impediment to the signing of De Gea.
"Only an agreement between the clubs is lacking."
Losing De Gea would be without doubt one of the biggest blows Van Gaal could possibly suffer this summer, even though he now has Victor Valdes to fall back on in reserve. The past two seasons the young Spaniard has come into his own between the sticks and without him United certainly wouldn’t be as high up in the Premier League table as they are now.
Of course Real Madrid will have little concern for such matters and Florentino Perez could well see De Gea as this year’s ideal Galactico purchase. The aforesaid Casillas, who before now was assumed to have the potential to be an obstacle for both Real and De Gea in terms of the deal in question, isn’t nearly so consistent as he once was and so his reign in the Spanish capital looks to be over.
When it comes to the claim made by Pedrerol United fans will have every right to be sceptical, particularly given that the Red Devils are looking destined to return to the Champions League next season.
Until the damning revelation is confirmed by either club supporters won’t be ready to accept it as gospel, and unless the player himself makes public his supposed longing to depart Old Trafford there will remain a cloud of serious uncertainty hanging over the situation.
United fans, do you think there’s any chance of De Gea leaving for Real this summer? Can Pedrerol’s claim be at all substantiated? Let us know in the comments box below.
