Russell Wilson may have fallen short at the final hurdle during the 2014 NFL season - he and the Seattle Seahawks losing the Super Bowl in the most dramatic of fashion - but yet another effective campaign in the pros only further added to his reputation.
Such is Wilson's drive to succeed though that it doesn't look like he is ready to settle for excelling at just one sport. Offseason rumors about the QB's likelihood to play MLB in the future were ramped up yesterday when the player himself said the Texas Rangers were keen on increasing his involvement.
The idea of Russell Wilson sacrificing offseason rest for a busy baseball schedule has, as you might imagine, led to worry amongst protective Seahawks fans. Comments today from the Rangers hierarchy therefore come at the perfect time.
"Russell has the competitiveness and work ethic to where he'd have a shot if he committed to baseball," Jon Daniels, General Manager of the Texas Rangers, told reporters before offering the 12th man solace.
"Obviously, he's got a pretty good thing going on with the Seahawks, and we're not going to get in the way of that."
The remarks come after Russell Wilson told HBO's 'Real Sports' show that the Rangers want him to play seriously, and the two sides have held discussions on the idea this month.
With the quarterback approaching the final year of his rookie contract, and negotiations on what could well be a monster deal appearing to be stalling in Seattle, the added issue of a potential leave of absence into MLB only adds to the worry for fans of the franchise.
Indeed many believe that Wilson's happiness to hype up playing two sports is simply a way to keep one step ahead in the negotiations regarding his NFL future.
The Seahawks, for their part, said they could theoretically see Wilson taking to the diamond in the future - saying you "couldn't put anything past him."
What do you think Seahawks fans? Should Russell Wilson be allowed to play MLB too, or is it too much of a risk? Have your say in the comments section below...
