WWE website editors predict John Cena to feud with Rob Van Dam, Sami Zayn or Sting

Published 42 Comments

John Cena has been sort of going through the motions in his build up to facing Rusev at Extreme Rules this weekend.

Cena has put his United States title out on open invitation to whoever has wanted to face him since WrestleMania, with Bad News Barrett, Stardust and Dean Ambrose all trying and failing to wrestle the strap away from Cena.

The WWE was never going to let Cena lose his Championship on any old episode of Raw - that "honour" only seems to go to the IC Title it seems which is weird - and with his current run with Rusev surely coming to an end soon, it looks like Cena is going to need a new feud. And the WWE website may have just predicted it.

The editors of the WWE website all came together to write a piece on who they think could/those they would like to take on Cena next, be it for the US Title or whatever. The results were certainly interesting. We'll run through the contenders here...

Sami Zayn

The first scenario up is former NXT Champion, Sami Zayn. Zayn hasn't made his jump up to the main roster yet so this would be one hell of a way to introduce him to the WWE Universe. Zayn is one of the most exciting talents down in NXT right now.

Boasting a scintillating combination of charisma and great in-ring ability, Zayn will be a bonafide star and fans favorite when he eventually makes the jump. He also has the backing of WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley, who took to his official Facebook account to praise the old 'El Generico'.

"Cena's singles matches have been excellent lately, and I know of more than one respected wrestling mind who feels that Sami Zayn is THE best wrestler in the business." - Mick Foley.

This would be awesome to see, but with the two of them being big babyfaces it doesn't seem likely to happen.

Rob Van Dam

RVD is a fantastic worker and is still loved by fans who reminisce about the days of ECW and ECW One Night Stand where Van Dam cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase and defeated Cena in front of ECW's faithful in New York City.

This would genuinely be a great feud to restart, but RVD and the WWE aren't on the best terms right now and with Van Dam only being on a part-time deal, whilst saying that it would take a lot to even consider a return, this doesn't seem on the cards.

The WWE's latest high flyer, Neville has enjoyed an energetic start to his life on the main roster, impressing in defeats against WWE Champion Seth Rollins and veteran star Dolph Ziggler.

The former NXT Champion has an electrifying skill-set and it could be treated by WWE Creative as one that Cena has never seen before, confounding him in the ring. I'd like to see this, but only if it doesn't end in Neville getting squashed.

Kurt Angle

Recently re-signed with TNA. Is now old as hell and can't work all the time. Would be good at the start but quickly get stale. No Thanks.

The best suggestion of the bunch and one that is so far out of left-field that it might actually work. The origin of the US Title is from the WCW and not WWE so there is an obvious angle there of the vigilante trying to reclaim it.

Sting is still under contract with the WWE but it doesn't look like they have anything planned for him right now. A feud with Cena for the title would be blockbuster and one of the best things that the WWE creative have done in a very long time.
