Liverpool are confident of securing the signing of Birmingham City striker Demarai Gray this summer.
This has been reported by Goal.com, who have suggested that the 18-year-old striker has been on the club's radar for some time now as he continues to go from strength-to-strength in the Championship.
In fact, Gray has played in as many as 40 matches for Birmingham this term, scoring six goals in the process, including a hat-trick against FA Cup semi-finalists Reading.
Now, then, it appears that a number of clubs are interested in securing his services sooner rather than later, with the same report from Goal revealing that the north London duo of Arsenal and Tottenham are also interested in landing him.
In fact, the report has also suggested that Aston Villa and Newcastle could make a move for him in the near future, so it certainly won't prove easy for Brendan Rodgers to bring him to Anfield.
Despite the huge interest, however, it appears that the Merseyside outfit are in the driving seat to sign the talented youngster, with a source confident that the deal will go through.
A source revealed to Goal: "Liverpool have always loved Gray, they like him a lot and remain confident of getting him but interest is growing from elsewhere."
It remains to be seen as to whether the Liverpool hierarchy step up their interest in the player, but it certainly appears that there could be quite the transfer tussle involving the teenager in the upcoming transfer window.
One for the future
Of course, at just 18-years-old, it's extremely unlikely that Gray will slot straight into the Liverpool side.
Ultimately, though, he's proved his credentials at Birmingham this season and if he continues to go from strength-to-strength, then he may well be playing at the top level sooner rather than later.
Like with every youngster, the move would prove a risk for the Reds, but it may well be one worth taking, especially with so many top clubs ready to land him. Don't be surprised if Liverpool act quickly to try and secure this deal.
