Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel has insisted that he's going to stay at the club despite recent reports linking him with a move away from Anfield.
As reported by the Liverpool Echo, the tough-tackling centre-half has insisted that he doesn't plan to leave Merseyside in favour of a move to either of Wolfsburg or Napoli.
Skrtel, of course, has been a key man for the Reds throughout the course of the campaign, having featured in as many as 27 Premier League games this term.
And it now appears that he's set his sights on the future with the club as he told reporters: "I am not leaving anywhere. Not to Wolfsburg nor to Naples."
In fact, according to his agent Karol Csonto, the experienced defender may well sign a new deal with the club in the near future.
Csonto has insisted that the defender has only had an offer from Liverpool, with negotiations ongoing.
He said: “The only offer which is lying on Martin Skrtel’s table right now is the extension of his contract from Liverpool.
“We have been working on the details, and we will be finalising it soon.
“It is not true that he has some offer from the German club. I don’t know anything even about their interest.”
Key role to play
There's no doubt about it, as Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers goes about improving his side ahead of the 2015/16 campaign, Skrtel still has a huge role to play for the Merseyside outfit.
Ultimately, the Slovakian ace has been the club's standout player in the defensive department this term, so he deserves the opportunity to stay on with the club for at least another year.
At 30-years of age, Skrtel can certainly provide crucial experience, especially if Rodgers enters the transfer window this summer. It's crucial that, as well as investing in the side, the Reds chief manages to keep his best players at the club.
