Former Kop legend Michael Owen believes that Raheem Sterling is better than Arsenal forward Mesut Ozil.

The BT Sport football expert was speaking on the channel’s news and debate show Football Tonight, where he made it abundantly clear that he feels the young England international has a brighter future than the German playmaker.

Bright Future

When asked does he think Sterling is better than Ozil, Owen replied: “Definitely, I think so.”

Sterling has been the subject of intense transfer speculation in the past few weeks after he rejected Liverpool’s offer of a £70,000-a-week contract.

This has led to the 20-year-old being linked with the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City, and most recently, Italian giants Juventus.

Crisis averted

Owen was also quick to highlight it was only a few months ago that everyone believed there was another ‘crisis’ at Arsenal, but now it seems that the Gunners could be ending the season on a high note.

“I think Ozil is a very good player but it’s ironic, we were talking about a crisis at Arsenal only a few months ago and they were struggling around fourth or fifth saying ‘are they going to get into the top 4?'

Strong finish

"They were knocked out the Champions League, hanging on in the FA Cup. All of a sudden it looks like they are going to win the FA Cup now, come second in the league and it will be a decent season for Arsenal, a very good season for Arsenal.

“It’s amazing how the game can change in the space of a month or so,” Owen added.

Liverpool travel to West Brom this weekend hoping to gain ground on fourth place Manchester City in the race for the Champions League places.

Meanwhile, Arsenal host Chelsea in the league’s top-of-the-table clash, where the Gunners can pull ahead in the race for second.
