This is according to The Sun, who understand Arsenal currently lead the race to sign the France international, with Arsene Wenger confident the 25-year-old wants a move to north London this summer.
But Chelsea’s potential offer could prove more tempting for Southampton manager Ronald Koeman, who may feel the experienced Mikel could be the ideal replacement for Schneiderlin.

The 27-year-old has been with Chelsea since 2006 and has made 329 appearances for the Blues, scoring five goals in the process.

Schneiderlin could make the difference at Chelsea
Keen to challenge for the Premier League and Champions League titles again next term, Mourinho has his eye on the highly-rated defensive enforcer Schneiderlin, who has been such a key player for the Saints in recent seasons.
It’s likely that Schneiderlin, if these latest rumours are true, would be deployed alongside the combative Nemanja Matic to create one of the most solid central-midfield partnerships in world football.
Cesc Fabregas could then be moved up to the central playmaker position behind Diego Costa, where he is arguably most effective, with Oscar challenging the Spain international for the No. 10 role.
Arsenal considering other options
If Arsenal lose out to Chelsea in the race for Schneiderlin, who Wenger wants at the Emirates Stadium to provide Francis Coquelin with some additional competition, then the Gunners have two other potential targets they may attempt to sign.
Real Madrid’s out-of-favour central midfielder Asier Illarramendi is one realistic option, while Borussia Dortmund’s Ilkay Gundogan could follow Jurgen Klopp out of Signal Iduna Park this summer.
Mikel Arteta to stay
Regardless of what happens in the transfer window, though, Wenger wants Mikel Arteta to stay with the Gunners for at least one more season.
The French coach has convinced the Spanish midfielder that he still has a big role to play at the Emirates Stadium, both as a player an as an example to the club’s younger players.
