On this week's Monday Night Raw, JBL and Michael Cole talked about how the Intercontinental Championship match between Daniel Bryan and Bad News Barrett could potentially be cancelled due to Bryan's ill health.

The former World Champion wasn't on Raw, and was last seen on Smackdown where he was in a tag match, teaming with John Cena to face tag team champions Tyson Kidd and Cesaro.

Bryan didn't play a big part in the match but did help Cena get the win. Now his latest singles match appears under threat thanks to what has happened since.

WWE reportedly sent the Champion home from the European tour due to a "concussion" before various contradicting reports stated that Bryan hadn't suffered a concussion, but he was badly banged up.

Injury update

The WWE have now updated their build up to the match on their website, which states:

"Daniel Bryan rose above six other Superstars to capture his first Intercontinental Championship in a Ladder Match at WrestleMania. However, if the ever-popular “Yes!” Man hopes to hold onto the title, he’ll have to get past the Superstar who lost the championship that day, Bad News Barrett, at Extreme Rules. Bryan is undergoing diagnostic testing to see if he can defend his title at Extreme Rules."

It is unknown what this "Diagnostic Testing" is, but WWE do have an extensive concussion test that Bryan would likely have been put through to ensure that he is healthy enough to return to the WWE ring.

Match, and title, at risk

Extreme Rules is this Sunday and given reports about Bryan's current health, it is unlikely that he will be a part of the match, and if he is, it will be hard for him to be thrown around the way he is used to.

That being said, WWE superstars work whilst being injured all the time, and if he can be strapped up or medicated long enough to compete in the match then I'm sure WWE would take that route to allow the title defense to go ahead as planned.

Bryan's current physical condition is unknown, but this would be his first title defense in 30 days and if he doesn't defend the title then much like when he was World Champion at the same time last year, he is at risk of being stripped of the championship under WWE's rules.
