AS Roma have encourage Liverpool, Manchester United and City to make a transfer bid for all-round midfielder Radja Nainggolan, reports The Mail.
The Belgium international, who is valued at £29million by the Serie A outfit, is co-owned by Cagliari and both clubs are looking to balance their books with the high profile sale.
They have told the Premier League trio that they are willing to do business but Liverpool will be the standout favourites to open the bidding.
Brendan Rodgers is looking to reinforce his midfield this summer as Steven Gerrard prepares to leave the club for Major League Soccer team LA Galaxy.
Nainggolan has played in a number of roles for AS Roma but has particularly impressed as a holding-midfield player.
The new Gerrard
That is a role that Gerrard has thrived in at times this season and it is possible that Nainggolan is on the shortlist to fill the void left by the long-standing captain.
Liverpool have also been linked with moves for Borussia Dortmund's Ilkay Gundogan and the out-of-contract Manchester City midfielder James Milner, who both fulfill a similar role for their current clubs.
Both Gundogan and Milner would cost significantly cheaper than Nainggolan meaning Rodgers would have to really like the Belgian international to blow a big proportion of his transfer budget.
However, convincing Milner and Gundogan to make the move to Anfield seems like a much harder task. Arsenal are very interested in Milner and will almost certainly be able to offer him Champions League football, unlike Liverpool.
Manchester United are also thought to be chasing Gundogan and should be able to offer him more money and Champions League football. Tough.
Manchester City would almost certainly prefer to throw more money at Milner than sign a player that comes without homegrown status. That is what they need this summer as opposed to high profile signings.
It is also hard to see Louis van Gaal accepting this invitation to bid as he appears to prefer AS Roma's other defensive midfielder Kevin Strootman.
Would Liverpool fans like to see Brendan Rodgers sign Radja Nainggolan for £29m?
