Robert Griffin III was hailed as a God in Washington during his first season in the NFL in 2012. His rookie year was an absolute whirlwind, but injuries prevented the talented dual threat quarterback from kicking on from that Pro Bowl season.
Griffin's performances on his return from injury in 2013 were so bad that he ultimately ended up third on the depth chart in the capital in Mike Shanahan's final year in charge of the Redskins.
Things didn't improve too much for RG3 last season, with the talented quarterback subdued in early performances during the year, before an injury put him out for several games. Griffin again returned to the fold later on in the season when Washington were already dead and buried, and again RG3 provided nothing spectacular for Washington.

Best of three evils
Despite all of these problems for RG3, all signs have pointed to the fact that the quarterback will remain the number one in the capital for 2015. However, this latest report from ProFootballTalk might just completely contradict that notion.
It is said that Washington's faith in RG3 only exists because they believe that he is the best of a bad bunch that the Redskins have at quarterback.

The NFC East team have the fifth overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, and it has been reported that the team will pick up Marcus Mariota as a long-term replacement for RG3, that is only if Mariota is still available.
"At least one report has said that if Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota is still on the board at No. 5, Washington will take him," PFT reported on Wednesday.
Mariota to replace RG3
However, it does seem more likely that Mariota will not be available for the Redskins, and reports have detailed that if Washington do not pick up a quarterback in the draft they will definitely exercise Griffin's fifth-year contract option.
"The Washington Post quotes an unnamed source familiar with the situation as saying the team is expected to exercise Griffin’s option after the draft," PFT added.
