Manchester United fans have every right to be looking forward to this summer given the transfer activity they’ve been linked with.
There’s barely a fan in the world who would expect Louis van Gaal to rest on his laurels this summer in the wake of a successful first campaign at Old Trafford, and if the news doing the rounds today is anything to go by it’s far more likely to be a summer of frenetic activity.
So who will be United’s top target in the window? Who is set to get the boot from Van Gaal’s Red Devils? Just how much is the Dutchman prepared to spend? We can’t answer all of those, but we can tell you what we do know, which is our way of saying ‘sorry, but you either like it or lump it.’
Di Maria on Gaitan
Kicking off today’s roundup we bring you perhaps an indication as to a player Van Gaal might sign this summer, although the man in question isn’t necessarily one the Dutchman has interest in himself.
FourFourTwo, citing reports from elsewhere, claim that Angel Di Maria has asked his manager to try and land Benfica star Nicolas Gaitan - coincidentally the man who was brought in to replace him when he left for Real Madrid.
Now Van Gaal doesn’t look like to the type of manager to bow into demands from his players, but given that Gaitan is an exciting talent and this seems to be more of a friendly recommendation than an outright ultimatum, it might just have some legs.
Of course Van Gaal is sure to have his own targets, who one would assume would sit higher up the pecking order, but all the same it’s worth monitoring Gaitan when the market opens for business.
RVP to stay
In other news fans worried about seeing Robin van Persie leave this summer can rest easy; he’s keen to remain at Old Trafford for at least another year. Turkish giants Fenerbahce are said to be the latest side ready to try and prise him away from the Premier League, with a whopping £200,000-a-week contract offer in the pipeline.
However Van Persie, who has struggled since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson, wants to fire United to the Premier League title next term, and so is ready to reject any forthcoming proposals.
Hummels 'fed up'
Last but not least we finish up with your daily dose of Mats Hummels-related jargon. Coincidentally the German international has revealed he is ‘fed up’ of talk linking him with a Borussia Dortmund exit, and isn’t interested in paying any more attention to it.
You’re not alone, Mats.
