French champions Paris Saint-Germain are plotting to land Petr Cech for just £3.5 million this summer, despite the fact his parent club are tipped to hold out for more than double that figure.
According to reports emanating from French daily Le Parisien, PSG remain eager to land the Czech international at the end of the season but have €5m (£3.5m) as the registered sum they believe he is worth. That’s sure to fall well short of the amount Chelsea are looking for, although a compromise might be met if the man himself kicks up a fuss.
Of course that scenario is wholly unlikely given how loyal he’s been to the Blues over the years. The general assumption is that Jose Mourinho will even grant the 32-year-old the ability to decide who it is he opts for, with Arsenal and Liverpool both said to be in the mix, which tells you just how keen Chelsea are to ensure Cech’s tenure doesn’t end on bad terms.

And yet £3.5m will surely be too little for them to accept given that the ‘keeper in question is hitting his peak years and that he remains a world-class asset on his day. Thibaut Courtois may have ousted him from his berth in the Chelsea goalmouth but that’s more testament to the latter’s potential than a damning indictment on Cech’s performances.
As a result PSG might have to go back to the drawing board and return with a far more impressive offer if they want Cech to be their new number one. Given that they plan on conquering Europe as well as continuing with their vice-grip over Ligue 1 it’s safe to assume that they do want to Chelsea man as their last line of defence, but whether or not they’ll be held to ransom remains to be seen.

For Cech a move to France could be the most straightforward avenue out of west London, especially when it’s considered that numerous complications could arise regarding a switch that sees him stay in England.
Issues with Arsenal
Arsenal could offer him Champions League football and negate the need for him to uproot his family from London, but at the same time there remains an intense rivalry between the Gunners and Chelsea, and with Mourinho sure to see them as potential title-rivals that will be an option he won’t be too keen to explore.
Chelsea fans, would you take £3.5m for Cech if it meant that he was guaranteed to leave the Premier League? Let us know your thoughts on the matter in the comments box below.
