WWE’s developmental brand NXT has shaped up to be almost a perfect stand-alone show like SmackDown is to Raw.
Some of the most amazing talent the sport of professional wrestling has ever seen is on NXT as we speak: Hideo Itami, Finn Balor, Tyler Breeze, the current NXT Champion Kevin Owens. That list goes on and on. WWE has brought over many of NXT’s top talent to shine upon the main roster with mixed feelings, talent like Neville who has been in A-level competition since his debut and shined bright.
Right now however, lets focus on the main topic of this article: Kevin Owens. Owens is the most talented, gifted, and versatile wrestler on the entire WWE/NXT roster and when he moves up, will be WWE World Heavyweight Champion in a matter of six months to a year.

Right now he is NXT’s champion after less than four months of being on. His match for the championship against Sami Zayn to win that title was won in as much of a dominating fashion as Brock Lesnar’s one-sided victory at Summer Slam where he won the WWE World Championship. (Minus 16 German Suplexes and a couple of F-5’s)
Adrian Neville attempted to exact revenge for his fallen friend shortly after that dominating victory on his last appearance on NXT before making his move to the main roster and, much like Zayn, was dominated and taken out by medical staff. Then there was this “rage” filled return to action from Alex Riley. Riley amazingly got a few shots in, but much like his predecessors before him, he too fell.

The closest anyone has gotten to a near victory over Owens has been the ultra talented Finn Balor. Finn earned an opportunity to face Owens for the title by winning a number one contenders tournament several weeks back and had one of the most amazing outings for a championship WWE has had in quite some time.
There were moments where many thought there was going to have a new champion. But, much like everyone that came before, Balor couldn’t get the job done. Sufficed to say that if given a second opportunity, Balor could become the next NXT champion. But for right now, Kevin Owens is seemingly unstoppable.
Who is next? Who can beat Owens? As it looks in the world of NXT, there are currently five competitors that would give Owens a run for his money.
We already witnessed at Take Over: Rival what the result of Zayn versus Owens, Owens ended Zayn’s short reign in superior fashion. But, Zayn made his televised return on Wednesday night defeating the former and final ECW World Champion the Man Beast Rhino in a match that truly could have gone either way.
But can Sami defeat Kevin Owens if given the rematch? Sources do say that Owens is scheduled to have the NXT Championship for quite a while. Now if that information hadn’t been made known, could Zayn get the job done?
This would be a fantastic match to see. It is a known fact that wrestlers like CM Punk and Daniel Bryan borrowed a bit of their move sets from Hideo Itami. Itami is also one of a small elite handful of wrestlers that WWE COO Paul Levesque hand selected and signed to the rosters. Itami is truly one the best and most creative athletes ever to grace the ring.
To see him against Kevin Owens would not only be a pay-per-view quality match, but it is an indy wrestling fans dream match. Itami versus Owens would be a real David versus Goliath but in the end Itami would fall. Owens is to tough and brutal for a competitor like Itami.
Realistically, this is a gimmick match. Breeze is a very good wrestler, however Owens is better. But the mic work that Tyler Breeze possesses is fantastic to watch. This would be HILARIOUS to see just for Owens’ responses alone. The match up would be great though, in all seriousness. Breeze would put up a great fight, but Owens is too powerful.
This is a dream match in the making. Corbin needs to be pushed to his limits, and a match against Owens would do just that. This past Wednesday, he was in a match that was literally 26 seconds. The match before that was only 35. Against Owens, it will be longer. This will be a straight up fight.
The former Colts lineman and former three-time Golden Gloves champion may have a chance against the NXT champ, but in the end, Owens will stand victorious once the dust settles and the battle is over. This would be a hard fought one should it happen.
When it comes down to it, the Ring of Honor rematch needs to happen: Kevin Owens versus Rhino. Rhino is one of the most decorated champions in the WWE/NXT. His credentials speak for themself. He is the former and final original ECW World Heavyweight Champion, ECW World Television Champion, NWA World Heavyweight Champion, WCW United States Champion, and WWF (not E) Hardcore Champion.
These two have only fought once and in that match The Man Beast lost. Rhyno, however, is in the absolute best shape of his career and granted he lost to Sami Zayn Wednesday night, putting Rhyno in a title match against Kevin Owens would be an amazing match. In my opinion, Rhyno is the only man in NXT that has what it takes hands down to beat Owens.
