Manchester United are poised to complete the signing of Borussia Dortmund sensation Ilkay Gundogan this summer, according to incredible reports in the German media.
Deutschland paper Der Western writes this morning that the Germany international, long-linked with a switch to the Premier League, is looking likely to sign a deal with the Red Devils that would make him one of the flagships signings of Louis van Gaal’s second summer in charge at Old Trafford.
The Dutchman is said to have a transfer kitty to the tune of £150 million for his post-season revamp of a squad that looks to have safely qualified for the Champions League, and his list of targets is more than likely to consist of the very best players Europe have to offer.

Running tandem with that is the fact that Dortmund are set for a shake-up of colossal proportions this summer, what with Jurgen Klopp having confirmed this season will be his last in charge at the Signal Iduna Park.
As the charismatic coach departs so too are expected to be a host of Dortmund’s key players. Call it the end of an era, but in truth Klopp appears to have been the glue holding the Bundesliga giants in place.

Gundogan at United
In Gundogan United may have an ideal replacement for Michael Carrick for the future, with the England international now running on ageing legs. At 33 it remains to be seen for just how much longer he can act as the metronome in the middle of the park for the Red Devils and when he does hang up his boots Van Gaal must prefer the idea of already having someone in place to take over his duties.
Although his recent record has been blighted by injuries there’s a reason Gundogan is rated so highly on the continent. At 24 he’s got plenty of time to adjust to life in the Premier League and the fact that he’s always been one of the first names on the team-sheet for Klopp in a Dortmund side more often than not riddled with talent is testament to his abilities.
Deal could happen
On top of that is the fact that Gundogan’s current deal expires next summer, meaning that Dortmund chiefs, and more importantly perhaps whoever is charged with replacing Klopp, might deem it best to cash in on him rather than risk losing him for nothing next year.
The likes of Gareth Bale, Memphis Depay and Gundogan’s teammate Mats Hummels remain other targets for Van Gaal, but there can be no doubting he won’t be attracted to proposals such as the one in question.
