Manchester United midfielder Ashley Young has revealed that Louis van Gaal is a fan of funky house music and has told the player that’s all he can play in the dressing room.
As relayed by the Manchester Evening News, the winger told how his Dutch boss, who is known for his strict demeanour and authoritative management style, likes both funky house and house music, and instructed Old Trafford’s resident DJ - enter Young - to play tunes of that nature on game days.
Funky Van Gaal
"I've been told by the manager I can only play funky house or house music," Young explained.
"Seriously that's what he likes. That's what's on the playlist."
You can very well laugh but it seems as though Van Gaal’s choice in music is having the right kind of effect on his squad. The Red Devils are currently sitting third in the Premier League, just one point behind Arsenal who occupy second - although it must be said the Gunners do have a game in hand.
Having overcome early seasonal struggles United have notched up a series of winning streaks and look good value for their league position. A host of players have also seen upturns in their own fortunes since Van Gaal’s arrival, with Young joining the likes of Marouane Fellaini, Chris Smalling and Juan Mata in this respect.
Prior to the appointment of the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich coach many United fans would have been forgiven for expecting that Young would be a bit-part player in this campaign before being flogged elsewhere on the cheap.
However the ex-Aston Villa star has found a home for himself on United’s flank, and his performances this term have generated reports of a possible contract extension.
Of course regardless of his music taste and level of control this season, Van Gaal will be all too aware that he needs to improve his squad if he’s to enjoy similar success next term. Champions League football beckons virtue of United’s top four position in the Premier League and as such the club can expect to be pitted against Europe’s best next year, on top of their domestic schedule.
With Van Gaal set to have another large transfer kitty he’ll be tasked with bringing home at least one piece of major silverware, though that, naturally, will be far easier said than done. A host of targets including Mats Hummels, Ilkay Gundogan, Gareth Bale and Memphis Depay find themselves continuely linked with Old Trafford, and securing such big names could be vital.
