Jose Mourinho is interested in signing Barcelona outcast Pedro this summer, reports Spanish newspaper Marca.
The Spain international has been at the Nou Camp for the duration of his career, but has found himself on the periphery of Luis Enrique's plans.
Neymar's arrival from Santos last summer along with the addition of Luis Suarez this summer has left Pedro with few opportunities for game time.
It is widely expected that the 27-year-old will be allowed to depart Barcelona this summer and a number of European clubs will be in the running to sign him.
Up until now, Chelsea have been one club that has not been linked with Pedro. Their Premier League rivals, Arsenal and Liverpool, have been tipped to make a move, but it seems they could now face a significant challenge in convincing Pedro to reject the chance to move to Stamford Bridge.
The perfect player
The report from Marca claims that Mourinho is a big fan of Pedro because of his ability to score goals from a wide position. The Spain international was once renowned for his goals tally and was once considered a key player alongside Andres Iniesta and Lionel Messi.
But with just 13 La Liga starts to his name this season, Pedro has been unable to keep his form at its very best. He has still managed to score five and create five more and Mourinho has been impressed.
Should Chelsea make a move for Pedro, Mourinho would have some challenge in convincing him that he could get enough game time as a Chelsea player.
Competition for Hazard
Eden Hazard occupies Pedro's favoured left-wing position while the likes of Willian and Juan Cuadrado are competing on the other side.
Pedro would surely come in as a back-up to Hazard, but Mourinho's pursuit of a new left-winger could upset the Belgian.
Hazard has been a key player for Chelsea this season and is heavy favourite to win the PFA Player of the Year award. The fact that Mourinho is looking to strengthen that area might undermine him.
Mourinho is always aware of his player's motivation and he may see Pedro as the perfect man to make sure Hazard stays on his toes.
Do Chelsea need to spend money on another quality left-sided winger?
