Barcelona star Jordi Alba has been linked with a summer move to Manchester City.
Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo have revealed Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini has shown an interest in the 26-year-old after another solid season at Barcelona.
The former Valencia defender has been an ever-present figure in the Barcelona side since his transfer to the club in 2012. This campaign, the left-back has made 37 appearances scoring two goals in the process.
Competition for places
With City keen to move ageing left-back Aleksandr Kolorov on this summer, City bosses see Alba as the perfect player to challenge Gael Clichy for the left-back berth next term.
Kolorov’s Manchester City career has often been blighted by errors, whilst Clichy performed poorly in his side’s recent derby loss to Manchester United.
City have underwhelmed this season, and currently sit in fourth, 12 points behind runaway leaders Chelsea. This is in stark contract to their performance last season, where they won the title by two points.
Alba’s current Barcelona deal expires in June 2017, and despite talks with the Catalan giants, a new contract is yet to be placed on the table. His buyout clause currently stands at €90m and City will wait to see if contract talks develop before making a move.
Meanwhile, City have been rebuffed by German outfit Wolfsburg over their pursuit of former Chelsea midfielder Kevin De Bruyne.
The former attacking midfielder has scored 15 goals and created 26 assists this season, a far cry from his barren spell in the Premier League. This form alerted City, but Wolfsburg are insistent they won’t sell the 23-year-old.
Manchester City host FA Cup finalists Aston Villa at the Etihad this weekend, hoping a victory will help them cement a Champions League place for next season.
