A young Real Madrid supporter felt the full force of a Cristiano Ronaldo free-kick prior to Wednesday night’s 1-0 victory over local rivals Atletico in the Champions League quarter-finals, reducing the poor lad to tears.
Ronaldo’s off-target attempt flew into the crowd and struck the youngster - the Daily Star suggest he was hit in the face, although we’re unable to verify if that was the case - and was looked at by medics as the visibly concerned Portuguese superstar carried on his warm-up.
The three-time Ballon d’Or winner, instead of heading down the tunnel to the dressing room with his teammates, went over to the upset child and generously handed him his training top. It was a nice touch which clearly meant a lot to the young Madridista.
Ronaldo went on to play a pivotal role in the match, producing the all-important assist for Javier Hernandez to send Real Madrid through to the semi-finals.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side will now face Juventus in the next round and, if they progress, will meet either Barcelona or Bayern Munich in the final.
Yaya Toure involved in similar incident
This is not the first time this season a young spectator has been on the receiving end of a mis-hit shot. Manchester City star Yaya Toure was involved in a similar incident earlier this season.
The Ivory Coast international hammered a ferocious shot straight into the face of a young girl during City’s draw with Queens Park Rangers, and sent her a signed shirt to say sorry after the match.
Both the young boy and girl were, fortunately, fine and now have an invaluable item from their heroes to show for their suffering.
Does this prove that Cristiano Ronaldo is, in fact, a genuinely nice guy? Have your say in the comments below!
