This week on NXT Alex Riley and Kevin Owens finally met in the ring after weeks of abuse and cheap shots, and we also saw a new number one contender crowned for Sasha Banks’ NXT Women’s Championship.

Also on the night, Finn Balor was in action against Tye Dillinger whilst an unfortunate jobber had the task of taking on Rhyno as matches continue to build towards the next NXT Takeover event.

Finn Balor kicked off the night, going one on one with Tye Dillinger and Balor had this match in the bag from the opening bell. He hit a few dropkicks as the fans were firmly behind him. Connecting with the Pele Kick followed by the Sling Blade before nailing the Coup de Grace for the quick victory.

After the match, Tyler Breeze appears on screen and calls Balor the flavour of the month, we can expect these two to meet in the coming weeks.

Dana Brooke is on screen, she made her debut last week and says that it was the rebirth of the women’s division in NXT because it was the debut of the strongest diva ever. Interesting times ahead for Brooke with plenty of brilliant divas on the roster.

Kevin Owens next, he’s asked about his thoughts on his main event match with Alex Riley, he says Riley gave him a good fight a few weeks ago but he’s never going to be NXT Champion. After Riley loses, he can go and find a chair, a table and a headset because his future doesn’t life in the ring.

Divas action next and easily the match of the night which occurs more often than not, Charlotte, Bayley and Becky Lynch in a triple threat match to determine who will challenge Sasha Banks for her NXT Women’s Championship. Becky is taken out of the match early on thanks to a double team effort from Bayley and Charlotte as the two controlled the early stages of the match, locking in a figure four headlock to knock Bayley down.

Becky came back into the match, hitting an impressive German Suplex to take Charlotte down. We get a knee hold before NXT live shows are advertised, Bayley fought out the corner but fell straight into a vicious knee. Charlotte hit the Natural Selection but didn’t go for the cover and the fans let them know that they were impressed.

Becky pulled Charlotte off the middle rope to break a superplex attempt but then ate a powerbomb for her troubles and Bayley chipped in with an elbow to the jaw to take Lynch down as she looked to be out of the match. Charlotte locked in the bad leg into the figure eight which is what we now call the bridging version, Becky Lynch then stole the victory, sneakily draping her arm over Bayley as Charlotte was unaware and Lynch now challenges her former partner, Sasha Banks.

CJ Parker is in action against Hideo Itami which will be one of, if not his final appearance on WWE television for a while and as expected, he went out on a loss. Parker locked in the headlock early on but Itami fought back with knees to the ribs to set up some big kicks. A running corner dropkick set up the Shotgun Kick to give Itami the win in under five minutes.

Backstage, Becky Lynch reflects on her win and doesn’t like how Sasha Banks is taking credit for her career. Rhyno is action next, nobody even knows the enhancement talent he is up against but Rhyno hit the Gore and ended his torture in less than 30 seconds.

Blake and Murphy are backstage and are singing to Carmella when Enzo and Cass appear backstage and accuse the sinatras of having Halitosis. We see some more tension between Enzo and Cass and Carmella as they bring up the fact that they brought Carmella to NXT.

Main event time with Alex Riley taking on Kevin Owens and Riley doesn’t back down. A good dropkick sent Owens to the outside and the champion decides it’s time for a quick breather as he goads Riley outside and he was driven into the barricade.

Owens is choking on the middle rope and hits the backsplash for a two count, Riley fought back up and hit a running elbow into the corner, followed by a flipping neckbreaker. Owens finished off the match by hitting the cannonball into the corner and the pop up powerbomb for the victory.

After the match, Kevin Owens looked to finish Alex Riley off by hitting the apron powerbomb but Sami Zayn came out for the save and started a brawl, security came out to separate them but Sami dived on to the pile which saw the champion running away to end this week’s episode.
