Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi has revealed that Dani Alves is his best friend inside the Camp Nou dressing room.
The four-time Ballon d’Or winner would probably have cited Cesc Fabregas and Pinto as his closest pals prior to last summer, but both players have since left Barcelona.
And while Messi gets on well with everyone at the club, the Argentina international admits he is closest to Alves, whose future with the Catalan giants is in serious doubt.
"We all get on well,” Messi revealed in an interview with FourFourTwo, “but I've always been closest to Dani Alves, because we played down the right of the pitch together when he joined Barça.
"We've spent a lot of time together on and off the pitch and we've developed a great friendship in our personal lives. That also helps a lot in games".
Barcelona must do more to keep Alves
Alves’ contract expires in the summer and Barcelona, who are unable to sign a replacement for the Brazilian full-back until January due to their existing transfer ban, have not offered the player a satisfactory deal.
It’s believed that Alves, 31, wants a three-year contract extension from his current employers - but Barcelona feel the adventurous right-back, who is on the radar of Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain, is starting to decline.
Messi’s latest quotes may have been a subtle message to Barcelona to offer Alves whatever it takes to keep him at the Camp Nou.
Failure to do so will leave Barça with Martin Montoya and Douglas as the only two right-back options at the club - and neither player is anywhere close to the level of Alves.
