Manchester United could land Welshman Gareth Bale for a club-record £75 million this summer, according to the Mirror.
The report claims that the Red Devils have been encouraged in their pursuit of the ex-Tottenham man in recent days, as Louis van Gaal goes in search of improving his side ahead of the 2015/16 campaign.
Future in doubt
Bale, of course, has endured a tricky second season at the Bernabeu, having been the subject of abuse from the Real faithful this term, and it now appears that he could complete a return to the Premier League sooner rather than later.
In fact, as well as United, the Premier League duo of Chelsea and Manchester City have also been linked with the Welshman, but it remains to be seen as to whether any of the clubs step up their pursuit of him.
It certainly appears that, despite Bale's reluctance to call it quits in Madrid, his long term future at the club is in some doubt, with the Spanish giants seemingly interested in moving him on.
And if United manage to land him in the next window, then he will prove an almighty coup for the club. There's no doubt about it, Bale would turn the Red Devils into title contenders ahead of the 2015/16 campaign.
With the likes of Wayne Rooney, Angel di Maria, Juan Mata and quite possibly Bale roaming around in the forward areas, Van Gaal's side will become near enough unstoppable at times. It certainly won't be easy for the Red Devils to sign him, but they must give it their best shot.
