Extreme Rules was certainly a fitting next event following a historic WrestleMania XXXI last month in San Francisco.
We saw new Tag Team champions in the New Day after they overcame the now former champions Tyson Kidd and Cesaro.
Nikki Bella retained her Divas championship and Seth Rollins made his first ever successive title defense of the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
Dean Ambrose finally defeated Luke Harper in a Chicago street fight whilst Roman Reigns overcame the Big Show in a last man standing match.
Only one match was confirmed to be repeating itself at next month's PPV and that is the very personal feud between Rusev and John Cena.
Including Extreme Rules, Cena and Rusev have fought for the US Championship in the last three PPV's and will now face off once again at Payback.
They fought in a Russian chain match tonight and after Rusev's defeat, he forced Lana to ask the Authority for a favour.
The Authority confirmed and it was announced that Rusev will have one last match against Cena and that it will be an I Quit match.
With the purpose of the match being to get your opponent to say I Quit, each man's resolve will be thoroughly tested.
Cena has practically made a career on the phrase 'Never Give Up' and now faces a match where he would have to break that rule to lose.
Meanwhile Rusev has never submitted in the WWE and saying I Quit would surely count as his first ever submission defeat.
The Final Chapter
Cena and Rusev have had three matches against each other with the Bulgarian Brute winning one and Cena winning two.
The fate of the United States Championship will now be decided at Payback with this surely being Rusev's final chance to win the title back.
