Despite the NFL Draft offering the enticing draw of two hyped quarterbacks, a cluster of exciting running backs and some explosive wide receivers, it is Adrian Peterson who continues to dominate much of the debate surrounding the Chicago extravaganza.

With Peterson now free to play in the 2015 season there has been much talk that the Vikings could trade away the controversial running back if they receive a stellar offer before, or during, the draft.

New info

With Peterson himself reportedly keen on a Minnesota exit, the Dallas Cowboys have long been mooted as a potential trade parter. New information today though may crush the dreams of fans hoping to see the veteran in the famous lone star jersey.

Yahoo Sports' Charles Robinson, citing knowledge garnered from no less than six "high-level NFL sources", has revealed that the Dallas Cowboys have had no contract whatsoever with the Minnesota Vikings. Nothing, nada, ziltch.

Per his report:

"As it stands, Dallas has not even spoken with Minnesota regarding Peterson. Let that sink in: As of the start of draft week, the Cowboys have not spoken to Minnesota about Adrian Peterson, let alone made any trade offers."

The main issue stopping Jerry Jones and co acting on their long-time interest in the Texas native is the money and draft picks they would have to give up to secure his services.

Having just refused to pony up for a new contract for OPOY Demarco Murray, the Cowboys appear firm on their financial policy.

With the consensus being that any Adrian Peterson trade will have to involve 2015 draft picks, and with the draft just three days away, the fact that Dallas have kept their distance must effectively rule them out of contention this late in the day.

Less and less likely

Darren McFadden currently heads their RB depth chart at this point in time, meaning Dallas Cowboys fans may be disappointed to hear a move for AP looks off the cards. But it isn't exactly looking positive for any other NFL teams not named the Minnesota Vikings.

Ian Rapoport noted yesterday that Peterson's current employers are stead fast in wanting to keep him on their roster.
