Edinson Cavani ready to request PSG exit this summer

Published 1 Comments

Edinson Cavani will demand showdown talks with Paris Saint-Germain manager Laurent Blanc at the end of the season and is prepared to request a transfer if necessary, reports Le Parisien.

The Uruguayan striker is prepared to stay at Parc des Princes, but once again the subject at hand will refer to his role in the squad.

Blanc likes Cavani, but the Frenchman has consistently preferred Zlatan Ibrahimovic as the central striker. That has left Cavani stranded on the left wing and he is starting to get fed up.

Cavani had asked for reassurance that he will be given a chance as a central striker last summer and such a request was granted by Blanc. But his promise has failed to come to fruition in the current campaign and Cavani is angry.

He is now ready to request a transfer away from the French capital unless Blanc promises to start using him in the central striker role. With Ibrahimovic under contract until 2016, such a demand is likely to be rejected.

Manchester United interest

Manchester United are one of several clubs chasing his signature. Louis van Gaal has seen Radamel Falcao fail to impress whilst on loan from Monaco and is set to send the Colombian back to Ligue 1.

That will leave Van Gaal with just Robin van Persie and James Wilson and the Red Devils boss is likely to commit a significant portion of his £150million transfer budget to a striker.

Cavani cost PSG €64m to sign from Napoli in 2013, but they will be willing to sell if an offer of around €50m came in. That is well within the budget of Manchester United and may even rule some of their competitors out of the race.

The competition

Juventus and Atletico Madrid are the other two clubs accredited with an interest but both would struggle to compete with Manchester United on a financial level. The Red Devils would be able to offer both PSG and Cavani more money.

The lure of the Premier League may also be enough to tempt Cavani into a move to Old Trafford while the promise of being the club's first-choice striker will surely seal the deal.
