Manchester United are edging closer to securing the services of Ilkay Gundogan next season, according to reports in the Daily Mail.
United have reportedly agreed a fee in the region of £20 million for the midfielder, who is looking for a new challenge.
Gundogan to leave
The German international will follow manager Jurgen Klopp out the door at Dortmund after declaring he didn’t want to sign a new deal at the club. Gundogan is thought to be the natural successor for Michael Carrick in the heart of United’s midfield.
This will come as a blow to the Dortmund faithful who have had to watch their best players consistently leave the club. Now, with Klopp and Gundogan on the move the fans may be worried about their other stars like Marco Reus and Mats Hummels completing the exodus.
Louis Van Gaal’s vision for the player and United has reportedly been enough to persuade the player to choose Manchester over other interested parties. Van Gaal has sent his scouts to watch him many times this season and have believe his passing ability can be the key link in changing defence into attack.
Gundogan may also be used to bring current team mate and countryman Hummels to Old Trafford, as a central defender is also thought to be on Van Gaal’s transfer wish-list. There is expected to be a flurry of transfer activity expected with these two clubs in the summer and by the look of things they have already got the ball rolling.
This summer will be crucial for United as they will look to challenge Chelsea for the title next season and bring title success back to the red side of Manchester.
With the expected signing of Gundogan they have taken a big step towards achieving that target. Let us know your thoughts in the comments box below.
