Vermaelen, who joined Barca on a five-year deal last August, has failed to make a competitive start for the club and had been feared to be on the medical table for the foreseeable future.
However, with only five critical games left in La Liga, and the Catalans sitting two points clear of rivals Real Madrid, Barcelona can avail of a new centre back being fit and available as the medical team at Camp Nou have clarified Vermaelen is now fully recovered.
Barcelona's season has gone from strength to strength and the club, who have a tough task against German superclub Bayern Munich in the Champions League, as well as a tightly contested La Liga run in will be more than happy with the bolstering at the back that Vermaelen's fitness will bring.
The club's website broke the news on Sunday, stating:
Vermaelen was given the medical all-clear following Sunday morning's workout at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper.
29-year-old Vermaelen's move to Barcelona came as a bit of a shock for many in England, as it was often debatable if the player had to ability to hold down a position in such a high quality side.
However, with La Liga's defenders operating on an ethos of playing the ball out from the back it looks to suit the Belgian and a more comfortable fit than that of the hard hitting defending of the Premier League.
Vermaelen, who had suffered a series of muscular injuries, is also recovering from an operation in December and is expected to be in the Barcelona squad in the coming weeks.
