Cristiano Ronaldo has let it be known to the powers at Real Madrid that he really likes Manchester United star David de Gea, reports The Mail.

De Gea is a summer target for Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, who sees the goalkeeper as a natural successor to Iker Casillas.

With his Manchester United contract moving into its final 12 months, it is possibly Real Madrid's best chance to sign the player for a bargain price.

A fee of £30m has been mentioned in the same report but Manchester United may be forced to accept significantly less if De Gea makes his position clear.

The real question lies with whether or not Real Madrid are prepared to replace Casillas before his time is up. The legendary goalkeeper has been at the club for 25-years and is one of their most decorated players.

A huge fan

Perez would be reluctant to throw him out into the cold, but Ronaldo has told Jorge Mendes, the super agent who represents both De Gea and the three-time Ballon d'Or winner, that he is a huge admirer of the Manchester United star.

Such an opinion would hold significant gravitas in the Real Madrid boardroom. If Ronaldo wants it to happen then Perez is likely to try and bring it to fruition.

De Gea's decision

De Gea seems to have already made his mind up. He is ready to leave Manchester United if Real Madrid come calling.

Louis van Gaal has revealed that the Spain international is stalling over a new deal and potential interest from La Liga is believed to be the reason behind it.

He is happy in Manchester, but the lure of playing for Real Madrid has proved to tempting to turn down.

Ronaldo's influence

Ronaldo, who himself was a key player at Old Trafford once upon a time, does not seem to have much to add with regards to this deal happening or not.

De Gea wants to sign and Real Madrid want to sign him. The only issue to be resolved is the future of Casillas. He will not want to play second fiddle but may also not want to leave the only club he has ever played for.
