This past Sunday at the Extreme Rules pay-per-view, John Cena successfully defended his United States Championship in a Russian Chain match against Rusev but it doesn’t look like their feud is ending any time soon.
On Monday, WWE.com broke the story that Rusev had challenged John Cena to a rematch and it has been granted. Rusev will challenge John Cena once more at next month’s Payback event for the United States Championship, this time in an I Quit match.
This match means Rusev and John Cena have now faced off at four consecutive pay-per-views. The first dating back to WWE Fastlane where Rusev managed to successfully defend his United States Championship in unconventional means but still managed to incapacitate Cena via the Accolade.

The following month at WrestleMania 31, John Cena defeated Rusev in the middle of the ring with the Attitude Adjustment, taking Rusev’s United States Championship from him and also taking away his impressive unbeaten streak.
It was believed that Extreme Rules would be the final time Rusev and Cena face off, especially for the United States Championship and considering there was an ‘extreme’ stipulation, it would have been a safe bet to assume it was their final encounter.

John Cena went up 2-1 at Extreme Rules, hitting an Attitude Adjustment to Rusev before touching all four corners to remain victorious.
USA VS. RUSSIA IV
John Cena will continue to defend his United States Championship in a weekly open challenge and the likelihood is he will retain the title so he can defend it against Rusev, but it’s almost a guarantee that John Cena will close out this feud 3-1. John Cena has never uttered the words I Quit and it’s highly unlikely he’ll start now, especially when it’s pretty much USA vs. Russia.
It would be a massive occasion for Rusev if he is able to win, not only reclaiming his championship but making John Cena say I Quit would gain more heat for Rusev as a win would do nothing for John Cena, but a loss for Rusev would hurt him as Cena has already restored some prestige to the title.
Other matches we can expect to take place include a triple threat match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship as Seth Rollins takes on both Randy Orton and Roman Reigns which has been rumoured over the last fortnight.
Dolph Ziggler could be looking for Payback after Sheamus’ cheap attack after he lost in the Kiss Me Arse match to Ziggler so we could see the two go at it once more. Whilst the New Day could also defend their Tag Team Championships against former champions Cesaro and Kidd.
Bray Wyatt and Ryback should have kicked off their feud by then so their first bout could take place at Payback. Daniel Bryan’s status is still up in the air, so the role the Intercontinental Champion and the belt itself will play at Payback remains to be seen.
