With every morning that passes, you can just feel that summer transfer window edging closer and, with it, a complete disregard for reality amongst the Spanish media establishment.
Sport seem to have rung in the silly season with what appears to be a ludicrous transfer rumour. They say the agents of Wayne Rooney and Juan Mata have alerted Barcelona to their availability this summer.
Now, I don't speak Spanish, so the chances that I have misread this story are high. If I have, take it up with Google. But, as I understand, Mata and Rooney are ready for a new challenge away from the Premier League and Barcelona seems to be one of fews clubs will to pay their wages.
Rooney is rumoured to be on a monstrous £300,000-a-week while Mata earns a comparatively paltry £140,000-a-week. Having not spent a penny in the transfer window since last summer, Barcelona have money piling up in the bank that they simply do not know how to use.
They are still banned from registering new players until January 2016, but that has not stopped Nou Camp officials from exploring the idea of signing these two Manchester United stars.
But, rather conveniently, Barcelona have already decided against signing Rooney. The England international, 29, is contracted to Manchester United until 2019 and would command a huge transfer fee.
Not only that, but Barcelona are not convinced his adaption to a creative midfielder has been the best move for his career. Where Louis van Gaal sees a man pulling the strings, Barcelona fans will see a man who is not running enough.
Again, rather conveniently, Barcelona have also turned down Mata. The Spain international has flourished in the second half of the season at Old Trafford but has not done enough to impress Luis Enrique.
Descent into madness
As a national to the country, a move to La Liga is a lot more feasible than Rooney's, but Barcelona do not see the need to sign a playmaker.
So, despite Rooney and Mata's desperate attempts to leave Manchester United, it seems they have been denied the chance to join one of Europe's biggest clubs.
We'll never know if this story is true but we do know Sport will be the No.1 destination of choice for the fantastical this summer.
Could you see Mata or Rooney leaving Manchester United this summer? Why?
