Marcus Mariota has ended up at the Tennessee Titans after they selected him with the second overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft on Thursday night.
Even though Chip Kelly and the Philadelphia Eagles offered several different trades prior to the draft, the Titans remained firm and chose the former Oregon Ducks quarterback.
The Heisman Trophy winner will now be taught the Titans' playbook by head coach Ken Whisenhunt and his staff, a playbook that many NFL experts believe doesn't match well with Mariota's strengths.
Mariota to start
Nonetheless, after drafting Mariota on Thursday, head coach Whisenhunt told Titans insider and Tennessean reporter Jim Wyatt that his plan is to have Mariota as his starting quarterback in week one.
"Ken Whisenhunt: "That's the plan" on Mariota starting in Week One. #Titans," Jim Wyatt tweeted on Thursday night.
"Ken Whisenhunt: "We have a plan (with Mariota). You have to push him, challenge him." #Titans."
Mettenberger will fight for place
The decision by the Titans to draft Mariota means Zach Mettenberger's position on the depth chart in Tennessee is uncertain ahead of the 2015 season. Many reports have linked Mettenberger with a trade away from the Titans, but Whisenhunt said on Thursday that last year's starter is ready to compete for the starting job again.
"Ken Whisenhunt said Zach Mettenberger "up for the challenge" of competing with Mariota #Titans," Wyatt added via Twitter.
