Chelsea’s South American contingent of Oscar, Willian, Filipe Luis and Juan Cuadrado are set to miss the club’s end of season tour to Australia due to international commitments.
According to the Daily Mail, the quartet will instead travel to Chile to take part in Copa America - Luis, Oscar and Willian for Brazil and Cuadrado for Colombia.
At the conclusion of the Premier League season the four players will find out if they’ve been selected for their countries, at which point they will be released by Chelsea to travel to the tournament.
Chelsea have a post-season tour planned to Australia and Asia, with a friendly scheduled in Sydney on Tuesday June 2, less than 10 days after their final Premier League match against Sunderland on May 24.
It’s a gruelling schedule for the Premier League champions-in-waiting, with the club’s preseason tour likely to start just a few weeks later in mid-July.
The football won’t stop after Australia either for the majority of the squad, as even the players not eligible for Copa America will likely face some kind of international duty over the summer.
Chelsea’s Gary Cahill is likely to be involved in England’s friendly against the Republic of Ireland in Dublin, set to take place on Sunday June 7 - just five days after the round-the-world trip.
Title all but secure
Chelsea can win the Premier League title with victory over Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge this weekend, their first title since Jose Mourinho returned to the club for his second spell as manager.
The Blues, who have already scooped the Capital One Cup trophy, go into the fixture 13 points clear of second placed Manchester City with just four matches remaining.
Elsewhere, the battle for a top four spot and Champions League qualification for next season looks all but sorted as well, after Liverpool’s defeat to Hull City earlier this week.
Manchester United, Arsenal and City are now jostling for second place behind Chelsea, with Liverpool seven points adrift of van Gaal’s United with just four matches to play.
What do you think Chelsea fans - will Mourinho’s men clinch the title at home to Palace this weekend?
