Manchester United line up Samir Handanovic to replace David de Gea

According to reports in the Daily Mail this morning Manchester United have made an enquiry for Inter Milan goalkeeper Samir Handanovic.

It seems Louis van Gaal is making contingency plans in case David de Gea makes a move to Real Madrid, and the Slovenian stopper is at the top of a list of potential replacements.

Despite the Italian side suffering a disappointing season, where they were knocked out of the Europa League by Wolfsburg and look likely to finish mid-table in Serie A, the former Udinese ‘keeper has won many admirers with a string of impressive performances.

The 30-year-old has one-year left on his current deal at the San Siro and may be one of a number of players sold as Roberto Mancini attempts to raise funds for a squad overhaul in the summer where he may look to raid former club Manchester City to capture the respective signatures of Yaya Toure and Stevan Jovetic.

Van Gaal already has impressive backup to De Gea in the shape of Victor Valdes, but United are still keen to secure another quality goalkeeper if their PFA 'Player of the Year' contender departs.

It looked at one stage that the Red Devils were looking to make a summer move for Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, but Spurs are not looking to sell the French international.

Stoke’s Asmir Begovic has also come under consideration, but for now it looks like attention has switched to Handanovic.

It is thought that Real Madrid could also be a potential destination for Handanovic if Los Blancos fail to land their number one transfer target of the summer, De Gea.
