Veteran MK Dons captain Dean Lewington scored twice in a 5-1 mauling of relegated Yeovil which secured his side promotion to the Championship. On possibly the biggest day of the season for the home side, many fans could have been forgiven for being slightly nervous and anxious in the build up to the game.

However, their team had no trouble today in securing a vital win and were met by little resistance from a already relegated Yeovil side. The Dons took the lead after just six minutes when Carl Baker hit a 25-yard strike into the bottom corner.

In control

The home side were in full control of the game and Lewington doubled the advantage with a fantastic free kick leaving Artur Krysiak with no chance in the away team goal.

Darren Potter added a third with a volley from a Lewington knock down before Will Grigg scored MK`s 100th league goal after heading in from a Baker cross.

Yeovil managed to pull one back after the restart as Dons defender Jordan Spence put the ball into his own net. However the own goal was only a consolation goal and Lewington added his second of the game by heading in from a Ben Reeves free kick.

The home side can now look forward to a season in a new division and the challenge that the Championship will bring.

It will be a tough ask and the team may need some investment in the summer to ensure that they have the best chance of staying in the league and push onto to make themselves a main stay in the league.
