Chelsea have secured their first title win in five years after beating Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge. Prior to the game Chelsea fans and players knew that a win would secure the title with a few games to spare. The team didn`t dissapoint winnning a hard fought match against a battling Crystal Palace side.
It is fitting that the player to score the winning goal and crown Chelsea champions would be PFA and quite possibly Chelseas player of the season Eden Hazard. The Belgian playmaker has had a big contribution in the success Chelsea have had this season, managing 14 goals and eight assists in this campaign.
As well as Hazard another key member gave another top quality performance. That man John Terry has been arguably the best English defender this season and alongside Gary Cahill Chelsea have a solid back line.
The veteran defender is a born winner and gives 110% for the team in each game regularly putting his body on the line for his team mates. Whilst Chelsea are great going forward it cannot be forgotten how much the influence of Terry at the back eases the pressure on the attacking players. Without the incidents in the past I fully believe he would still be first choice for England and would tighten a sometimes weak backline in the England set up.
As a whole Chelsea have been dominant in most areas this season scoring the second highest amount of goals (68) behind only Manchester City. They also have the second best defensive record in the league conceding only 27 goals this season which is only bettered by Southamptons 26. As well as this they also boast the most clean sheets in the league (16) and the highest shot conversion rate (18.31%).
This is a team that many critics have called boring in recent weeks , in my opinion they are the team that deserve to win the league, both Manchester teams have struggled this season, Liverpool have faded away after a strong push last season and Arsenal left it too late to make a push for the title.
Mourinho again has proved again that he knows how to form a winning team and has added to his impressive CV with yet another Premier League winners medal. This is a typical Mourinho side with a strong goalkeeper, an experienced back four, a combination of agression and creativity in the midfield and a big, powerful, goal scoring centre forward. If he can add to this squad in the summer than they could be strong favourites to follow this win up with more trophies next season.
It is diffficult however to see where he is likely to improve next season. I can`t see him conducting much major business unless he has outgoing players e.g. Loic Remy and Petr Cech. In recent times they have been linked with Alexandre Lacazette and would need a back up goal keeper should Petr Cech leave the club to find first team football.
