It was reported recently that former TNA and ROH star Samoa Joe has been signed to WWE.
The anticipation amongst wrestling fans since hearing this news has been huge.
This has was only increased further thanks to Samoa Joe himself who, in an appearance on Jim Ross’ one-man show in San Jose during WrestleMania 31 Week, mentioned during the conversation that he wants a match against Brock Lesnar.
Could it happen?
A match of that magnitude can only happen on a major pay-per-view. Good ol’ J.R. expects Joe to be working a major match at WrestleMania 32. This could very well be Brock versus Joe. Joe wants this match and is open to going to NXT before going to the main roster if that is what WWE wants him to.
Both of these men have incredible mat skills with both submission wrestling and fighting. If this match happens at WM32, it will steal the show.
Joe is a Triple Crown winner at TNA, holding every championship, and at one time holding the TNA X-Division Championship and TNA World Tag Team Championships with then TNA World Heavyweight Championship holder Kurt Angle.
Meanwhile, Brock Lesnar is the only wrestler in professional wrestling to ever be NCAA Division 1 Champion, WWE Heavyweight Champion and unified the UFC Heavyweight Championships. Both men have also had incredible matches with Kurt Angle.
Work to do before then
If Joe has his way and this match happens, Brock Lesnar versus Samoa Joe will be the match of the year. “The Beast Incarnate” and “The Samoan Submission Machine” will steal any show they are booked on whether it’s the main event of WrestleMania or the main event of a house show.
But when will this match happen? What is first for Joe? As stated earlier, he is open to going on NXT first. How will “The Samoan Submission Machine” fair with the NXT roster?
Through the NXT avenue, there are several dream match scenarios including; Samoa Joe versus Finn Balor, Joe versus Hideo Itami, not to mention the one that many fans want to see happen: Samoa Joe versus Kevin Owens.
We could see Joe as NXT Champion prior to moving to the main roster and facing Brock. Or we could see a move almost like what we are going to see with Finn Balor who went to NXT for a few months before a proposed move to the main roster.
Regardless of the scenario, Joe wants a match with Brock Lesnar and we may be in for a long overdue treat for the ages.
