Juventus v Real Madrid: Champions League preview

Football News

Juventus entertain Real Madrid tonight in the first game of the semi final in this years Champions League.

Both sides go into the game with impeccable European form. The Old Lady unbeaten in their last 12 at home host a Los Blancos side that have only lost one of their last nine Champions League ties.

The highlight of tonight's fixture will surely be the appearance of Andrea 'il professore' Pirlo up against former boss Carlo Ancelotti who the 35 year old football demi-god played under at AC Milan.

Sergio Ramos is to retain the unfamiliar position in front of the Madrid defence in an attempt to stop the steam rolling Juventus midfield.

After impressive displays in the same position in La Liga, Ancelotti has opted to play the Spaniard in the same position, however up against a much harder hitting Italian side, Ramos will surely have his work cut out for him.

Team news

The battering ram of Juve's engine room should do enough to occupy Ramos, thus freeing up Pirlo to work his magic. However he'll have to be at his very best as Madrid welcome back Welsh superstar Gareth Bale for a game that could be really torn apart by his electric pace.

It isn't all rosy for Los Blancos as Karim Benzema's injury means Cristiano Ronaldo will have to be the main source of attacking firepower tonight, not that that's ever been an issue but surely the alternative option of Benzema would have been of good use against a solid Italian back four.

Predictions for tonight's game would mainly focus around a stalemate as the two sides cancel each other out in a cautious attempt to take a draw into the second leg, as Juve and Real were both shy on goals in their previous conquests it could be another scoreless affair.

This isn't to say Juve won't take the game to Real, as La bianconeri  will take encouragement from the terrible form Madrid have in Italy, having not won there in their last seven visits.

Although a low scoring game may be a formality, it could be a Juve side that upset the odds as they go into the game slight underdogs.
