Both Chelsea and Manchester City are looking to make a surprise move for Tottenham full-back Danny Rose, according to ESPN.
Both clubs are believed to be eyeing up a new left-back in the summer and have been monitoring Rose, who has earned a call-up for Roy Hodgson's England squad this season.
The 24-year-old, who recently penned a five-year contract, has had a mixed season for Tottenham but appears to have won his battle with Ben Davies for the starting left-back spot at White Hart Lane. ESPN say that both Chelsea and Manchester City are considering Rose as they look to increase the amount of homegrown players amongst their ranks.
Chelsea currently have Cesar Azpilicueta as their first-choice left-back ahead of specialist Filipe Luis who joined from Atletico Madrid in a £16 million deal at the start of the season. However the Brazilian has reportedly grown frustrated at his lack of first-team action this term and has been linked with a move to the Vicente Calderon.
Manchester City meanwhile could lose Aleksander Kolarov to Lazio in the summer, and Rose is reportedly viewed by boss Manuel Pellegrini as a potential alternative.
The Citizens got to take a close look at Rose at the weekend during their 1-0 win against Tottenham at White Hart Lane. Striker Sergio Aguero proved to be the difference in the first half to help secure his side's participation in the Champions League next season.
They are now level on points with Arsenal in second place, but 13 points adrift of Chelsea who were crowned champions after their win against Crystal Palace.
Tottenham meanwhile have missed out on the Champions League once more and sit in seventh place after the defeat against Manchester City, seven points adrift of Manchester United in fourth.
Danny Rose may have wrestled the left-back spot from Ben Davies but don't let that fool you; he is inconsistent at best and a liability at worst.
Positioning is perhaps his greatest weakness. Time and time again this season he's been caught out after a foray downfield. Chelsea and Manchester City are evidently on the lookout for back-ups to Azpilicueta and Gael Clichy and that's about as good as Rose is at this moment in time.
