Bayern Munich rule out move for Eden Hazard

Published 4 Comments

Bayern Munich scout Daniel van Buyten believes his club will never bid for Eden Hazard because Chelsea will ask for too much money.

Hazard was briefly linked with a move to the Allianz Arena after Franck Ribery suggested that the Belgian would be a fitting replacement for him.

However, Van Buyten believes that although Bayern Munich are one of the richest clubs in the world, they would still not be able to meet the price apparently set by Jose Mourinho.

Speaking about his compatriot to Het Nieuwsblad, Van Buyten said: "Bayern would never sign a player like Eden Hazard.

"He would cost between €70million and €80m (£51m and £60m) and that is a lot of money even for Bayern.

"They would rather sign a 17-year-old or an 18-year-old who would cost €5m or so."

Alternative signing

One youngster exactly like the one Van Buyten described looks set to be involved in a fierce transfer battle this summer.

Anderlecht's Youri Tielemans, 17, has been linked with Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal in recent weeks, but Van Buyten has confirmed Bayern Munich are also set to throw their hat into the ring.

"Tielemans is one of the players Bayern are keeping a close eye on," Van Buyten added. "He still has a lot to learn, but he is one of the biggest talents of his generation.

"I like to compare him to Bastian Schweinsteiger. He is getting older and Tielemans could be his long-term replacement."

Hazard's price

One interesting point to make about Van Buyten's comments is that Chelsea would be unlikely to sell Hazard even if a £60m offer came in.

Not only is the 23-year-old the most marketable player in the team, selling millions of shirts for the club, but he is also their best player.

With the transfer market at its current level, where players like Luke Shaw go for almost £30m, Mourinho would probably need a world record fee to part with the winger.

The only clubs capable of doing that are Real Madrid and Manchester United, whose commercial strength sees them defy Uefa's financial fair play regulations every summer.

Would Chelsea fans want to see Jose Mourinho accept a £60m offer for Eden Hazard? What price should they sell him at?
