Chelsea prepare bid for Ghana starlet Baba Rahman

Chelsea are set offer around £11million for FC Augsburg star Baba Rahman, according to talkSPORT.

Citing reports from L'Equipe, the story claims that Chelsea scouts have been keeping a close eye on the left-back this season and have sent glowing reports back to Jose Mourinho.

Rahman has made an instant impact at Augsburg after moving from German second division side Greuther Furth last summer.

The 20-year-old is now first team regular for the Bundesliga outfit, making 28 appearances this season. Augsburg have been doing very well

He has also already been capped by Ghana 11 times and was selected for the African Cup of Nations squad, helping the Black Stars to the final where they eventually lost to the Ivory Coast on penalties.

Premier League interest

Now Chelsea are ready to offer him the chance to play in the Premier League, but they may not be the only English club in for him this summer.

Reports this week have suggested that Manchester City could also be readying an offer for Rahman, leaving the player with a potentially difficult decision to make.

Manchester City have two ageing left-backs in the form of Gael Clichy and Alex Kolarov, both 29, with the latter being linked with a potential Etihad exit this summer.

Replacing Luis

Chelsea's interest in Rahman is likely to have come as a direct result of reports linking Filipe Luis with an exit this summer.

The Brazilian has failed to impress Mourinho since arriving from Atletico Madrid last summer and may be looking to return to his former stomping ground.

Luis, 29, has been unable to break into the first team at Stamford Bridge and is reportedly being lined up as a possible makeweight in a deal for Koke.

Loan star

Rahman has time on his hands and may be more willing to accept an understudy role behind Cesar Azpilicueta, who remains Mourinho's first choice left-back.

However, Mourinho could instead opt to loan Rahman out, where he would join dozens of other Chelsea hopefuls currently spluttered around Europe.

Is it time for Chelsea to sell Filipe Luis and replace him with this hot prospect?
